    BENIDORM
Quite simply the Mecca for mobility scooter hire on the Costa
Blanca. Situated between hilly regions, it sits in a bowl and is
perfectly flat in most places, which is always good when using a scooter.
You will find that nearly all kerbs have dropped kerbs
wherever you go. The shops, bars, hotels and restaurants are all very
scooter friendly.
There are a couple of hotels in the old town with difficult
access, by way of no ramps but, you often find a neighbouring
establishment only too willing to assist you. In short,
Benidorm cannot be faulted for a holiday involving a mobility
scooter or wheelchair!

  Altea
Situated 15km north of Benidorm, Altea is one of the few
resorts that has maintained its roots as a traditional Spanish fishing
village.
Within a short time of arriving you will get that feeling of
‘how things used to be!
The main hotels are all scooter friendly and the drop kerbs
are adequate. In the town centre, which is predominately flat, it creates
little problems for mobility scooters or wheelchairs. However, as with
most older resorts there are some areas which are difficult to
access. The main road can get very busy so it is advised to cross only at
the designated crossing areas of which there are many, all of which have
dropped kerbs.
The Railway station in Altea is totally Wheelchair/Scooter
friendly
with the tram type trains having level access to get on
without the need for any ramps. You can travel to Calpe and Denia and, to
Benidorm, etc and Alicante the opposite way where you can then access the
main rail system.

    Albir
Albir, whilst being quite small, is also totally
Wheelchair/Scooter friendly. It joins onto Altea by way of a seafront
promenade, which is beautifully paved and is rarely busy at any time. It
is virtually all flat with only a slight rise into the ‘town’ itself
which boasts many bars, shops, a variety of restaurants and banks.
Regular bus services run through Albir, which is on the route from
Benidorm to Altea.
It is the complete opposite of Benidorm in size and
brashness. It is a lovely resort, very quiet and peaceful but still has a
good range of amenities expected. Albir has a number of very good hotels,
some of which having disabled friendly rooms with disabled access shower
rooms etc.

   Calpe is situated 7km
north of Altea.
It is dominated by the Penon de Ifach (Ifach rock) which
overlooks the town.
Unlike other resorts Calpe is situated on a very steep hill,
Indeed its main street the, Gabriel Miro, leads right to the top where
the old town is situated and, where most of the fiestas (festivals)
normally come to a conclusion.
It is advised you ensure, if you hire a mobility scooter in
Calpe, that it is capable of getting you to the top, especially if you
are there during fiestas.
All the hotels are thoroughly modern and are wheelchair
friendly, as are most of the apartment blocks (check if unsure before you
go.).
Drop kerbs are almost everywhere. The exceptions being around
the outer limits.
There are numerous large supermarkets, all of which can be
ridden around on a scooter or wheelchair and, nearly all the bars and
restaurants are at ground level, in the town centre, as are most of the
beach hostelries. Both beaches and the long promenades are flat and wide
and lead from the bottom of the old town to the harbour area, which has
many accessible fish restaurants. Numerous exit/entrance ramps lead off
the promenade..
One fully charged scooter should get you around Calpe all day
without a problem, providing you do not go to the very top of the hill
more than a couple of times in the same day

  Moraira Just a short
distance south of Javea. This gem of a town, one of the smallest on the
Costa Blanca, has its own unique style. It is quiet and laid back with no
noisy bars or nightclubs.
It affords excellent dining with many classy eateries all
over the town but mainly centred on a lovely church courtyard.
There are a few small hills, which should present few
problems, but it is predominately flat in the centre, with adequate drop
kerbs and good crossing facilities.
Most of the shops are accessible with the exception being a
few that are on a second tier near to the courtyard,
Moraira has only a few hotels but they are all
wheelchair friendly.
   Javea Situated
right next to Denia in the northern Costa Blanca and of a similar size
So
a heavy duty scooter would be advisable.
The
town centre is predominately flat with adequate drop kerbs in abundance,
There
are some higher kerbs towards the outskirts, as is the norm in most
places.
All the
main hotels are scooter friendly, however it is advised to check
accessibility if you have reserved a villa or apartment.
Other
than that there are few problems foreseen.
   Denia the
most northern of the resorts It covers a huge area so once again a heavy
duty may be advisable.
Once
again, the town centre is flat with many drop kerbs and high visibility
road crossings.
All
major hotels are chair friendly and once again if you intend to book
a villa or apartment check before you go that it has good access.
Care should always be taken if renting a villa as not all
are wheelchair/scooter friendly!
